Trudy Painter

Trudy Painter (she/her) is a creative technologist who cares about building tools + experiments to make AI approachable for a wide audience. She currently works at Google Creative Lab in New York City as part of their Fiver residency program. At Google, she splits her time between building experimental AI prototypes and designing communication strategies for AI research releases.
Trudy is also a recent graduate of MIT, double majoring in computer science and comparative media studies. She built fullstack AI tools and published human/AI collaboration research through the MIT Media Lab, specifically the Viral Communications group.

Drawing on her collaborations at Google Creative Lab and her expertise building technical tools for nontechnical audiences, Trudy will share ways to expand participants’ technical literacy around AI, algorithms and large language models. She'll make a case for why technical literacy is important, and share visual explainers and metaphors that will help participants get closer to understanding the algorithmic foundations and applications of current AI/LLM research.
